🎣 DAT Traffic By Country

Analyzing who accesses popular freight websites like DAT gives us insight into where people are located and how website traffic has shifted over the last three months.

🎣 DAT Traffic By Country

A few months ago, we shared the Top 5 Countries by Traffic Share for DAT, Truckstop, and 123 Loadboard. I was surprised by how many shares and comments our Instagram post received.

So today, we’re diving deeper into which countries access DAT and how load board website traffic has changed over the last three months.

DAT Traffic by Country

The United States is one of the few countries where domestic logistics operations are heavily outsourced to other nations.

Several factors contribute to this trend:

  • The U.S. is the wealthiest country, making it an attractive market.
  • Our free society and lighter transportation regulations make outsourcing easier.
  • U.S. companies save on costs by hiring overseas talent.

Before the pandemic, most outsourcing was done by trucking companies with Eastern European roots opening offices in their home countries.

However, during the pandemic, U.S.-based brokerages began outsourcing en masse, particularly roles like tracking and carrier sales.

Analyzing who accesses popular freight websites like DAT helps us understand where people are located and how traffic patterns have shifted in the past few months.

Over the last 3 months, these countries have pushed the most traffic towards DAT.

The first number below shows each country’s traffic share, and the number in parentheses shows the 3-month change.

  1. United States: 84.98% (-13.67%)
  2. Canada: 2.99% (-34.80%)
  3. India: 1.85% (-30.04%)
  4. Macedonia: 1.73% (+39.88%)
  5. Lithuania: 1.15% (+16.71%)
  6. Pakistan: 0.79% (+17.38%)
  7. Ukraine: 0.75% (+21.44%)
  8. Uzbekistan: 0.69% (-65.64%)
  9. Philippines: 0.59% (+8.74%)
  10. Honduras: 0.58% (-38.50%)

Macedonia, Ukraine, Pakistan, Lithuania, and the Philippines saw traffic spikes, while Uzbekistan, Honduras, Canada, India, and the U.S. experienced declines.

However, these numbers don’t tell the whole story.

In March, DAT banned access from Serbia—shortly after our visit there. Since then, users in Serbia have been using VPNs to access the platform.

If Serbia were allowed to use DAT without VPNs, it would likely rank in the top five countries by traffic.

Here's a screenshot from our friend Aleks Bates when he discovered that DAT no longer works in Serbia:

Serbia Documentary Update

Speaking of Serbia, we just released the trailer for our upcoming documentary on the Serbian logistics outsourcing scene.

The full documentary is set to drop in the next couple of weeks, and we’re excited to share it with you!

Over the past three months, website traffic across the three most popular load boards—DAT.com, Truckstop.com, and 123Loadboard.com—has seen noticeable declines.

Here's a breakdown of the traffic trends according to SimilarWeb:

Traffic Breakdown (July - September 2024):

Data Source: SimilarWeb
  • DAT.com and 123Loadboard.com saw significant traffic declines.
  • Truckstop.com remained relatively stable, with almost no decline.

These trends could be due to various factors, including:

  • The closure of companies, leading to reduced traffic.
  • Some companies canceling their DAT subscriptions in favor of Truckstop.
  • Seasonal changes affecting overall usage.

You can continue reading about this topic in our blog that I wrote up in July:
