A FreightCaviar follower spent weeks quick-paying carriers on a steel project before learning the shipper was fake, the carriers were in on it, and not a single load was ever real. Plus: Congress takes aim at chameleon carriers, diesel keeps falling, and more.
“When I say you’re going to require high levels of authenticity and authentication at the point of entry... that is no longer going to be enough to prevent access. You’re going to need multiple points that all need to match in order to unlock access- that’s where we’re going."
FMCSA launched a new carrier registry three weeks ago to stop freight fraud — zero new carriers have been registered since. Plus: PepsiCo is running 41 driverless trucks, peak season and a shrinking driver pool, cameras know where your carriers have been, and more.

Freight Alley Recap
Last Friday, Grace Maher joined us to discuss FreightCaviar’s recent trip to Chattanooga and Atlanta, and one of the challenges truckers still face today.
Reed Loustalot and Paul-Bernard Jaroslawski with David Parker, CEO & Founder of Covenant Logistics, at Covenant HQ in Chattanooga, TN.
Earlier this month, we spent seven days in Atlanta and Chattanooga, chatting with legendary people in freight– from Max and Craig Fuller to David Parker, and more, all featured in our next documentary.
Despite the pre-holiday hustle and bustle in the offices, they were more than happy to share their personal stories and discuss Chattanooga’s history and impact on the industry.
We can't wait to share it all with you in March 2026.
Reed also addressed one of the more overlooked issues in the industry- the less-than-ideal state of restroom availability in trucking today.
"I see threads, or a Reddit post of a flyer at a warehouse saying, 'No bathroom for drivers.' This is actually probably a bigger problem than we even realize."
It's no secret that the more a driver knows about a facility, the better he can plan his day. Above all, having access to a restroom is a basic amenity that drivers have gone without for far too long.
When personally dropping off issues of the FreightCaviar Magazine, we noted that Nolan Transportation Group has an unusually impressive restroom for a freight brokerage.
