TOP LANE MOVERS POWERED BY TRIUMPH

📉 Freight Shipments Hit 16-Year Low. October freight volumes plunged to their weakest level since 2009, according to Cass Information Systems. Shipments dropped 4.3% from September and 7.8% year-over-year, as shippers consolidated freight to offset rising LTL rates. Despite the decline, total freight spend slipped just 0.2%, suggesting rates climbed roughly 8% higher year-over-year. Cass warned that if seasonal patterns hold, November shipments could fall another 10%, marking the steepest drop since mid-2023. Truckload linehaul rates rose 3% year-over-year, but Cass cautioned the uptick may fade as pre-tariff activity cools and capacity continues tightening amid carrier exits.
📦 C.H. Robinson Expands Border Footprint as U.S.–Mexico Trade Surges. C.H. Robinson has added 450,000 sq. ft. of new warehouse and cross-dock space in El Paso, pushing its total U.S.–Mexico border capacity past 2 million sq. ft. The move comes as Chihuahua, Mexico’s top export state, posts a 35% YoY export jump, driven by high-tech, automotive, and medical manufacturing.VP Jay Cornmesser said El Paso is becoming a “vital gateway” as nearshoring accelerates and companies seek turnkey customs, warehousing, and multimodal support. With 35+ years in Mexico and expanding AI-enabled operations in El Paso and Laredo, C.H. Robinson is positioning itself as the region’s most scalable cross-border logistics partner.
🚗 GM Orders Suppliers to Unwind China Sourcing by 2027. General Motors has told thousands of suppliers to remove China from their supply chains, aiming for a full exit by 2027 as U.S.–China tensions and tariff whiplash make planning nearly impossible. GM says the shift is about “resiliency,” avoiding rare-earth shocks, chip shortages, and tariff spikes that repeatedly disrupted production in 2024–25. The automaker will accept sourcing from North America or non-restricted countries, but wants the China link severed for parts used in U.S. and Mexico production. Suppliers warn the transition is massive: China dominates lighting, electronics, tooling, and commodity components.

In the span of a week, three notable deals dropped, each from a different corner of the industry: fintech, brokerage, and autonomous trucking. And while the moves look unrelated, they highlight how differently companies are preparing for the next phase of the market.
Let's break them down.

TruckSmarter’s factoring division is now officially part of OTR Solutions.
This is a buy of relationships.
TruckSmarter has built one of the stickiest carrier ecosystems in the industry, especially among small fleets and owner-operators who love their app, instant payouts, and no-BS UX.

By taking over the factoring side, OTR just plugged a huge population of active drivers into its financial services engine.
In a market where small fleets are struggling and consolidation is accelerating, OTR is positioning itself as the default wallet + financial operating system for a big portion of the long-tail carrier base.
"...the companies’ complementary expertise lays the groundwork for a more connected, efficient freight ecosystem...the future of freight runs through OTR." – OTR Solutions Statement
On the brokerage side, BlueGrace Logistics made its second acquisition of the year, scooping up Michigan-based STB Freight Group to deepen its Midwest footprint.
STB brings:
For BlueGrace, they are sharpening their managed transportation platform by adding contracted carrier density in a region where manufacturing rebounds can instantly shift load flows.
It’s a classic roll-up move during a down market: buy regional strength, plug it into national infrastructure, and emerge stronger when volumes return.

Meanwhile in Texas, BotAuto and Marsh announced a deal with very different implications: comprehensive insurance for BotAuto’s driverless truck fleet.
Insurance is one of the biggest friction points preventing autonomous trucking from scaling. You can build the trucks, run the pilots, and secure the shippers, but without coverage that understands autonomy-native operations, you’re stuck.

This partnership solves that.
Why does this matter?
Because AV fleets generate cleaner, richer, more defensible data than human-driven fleets, insurers finally have a way to price that risk.
With this policy, they can scale lanes rather than just test them. It's a sign that future autonomous capacity is becoming commercially viable.

🤝 DHL x HappyRobot. DHL is teaming up with HappyRobot’s AI agents to handle appointment scheduling, driver follow-ups, and warehouse coordination. DHL's CIO Sally Miller said the tools “drive greater process efficiency” and automate repetitive, time-consuming tasks.
🏠Paccar Job Cuts. Paccar is cutting more manufacturing jobs at its Quebec facility amid soft North American truck demand and a company-wide effort to streamline production.
đź’ł Diesel Theft Ring. Four people were arrested in California for a truck stop card skimmer and diesel theft scheme that stole thousands in fraudulent fuel purchases.
đźš« Route 40 Ban. Following a fatal crash that killed three, a Pennsylvania coroner is urging officials to ban commercial truck traffic on Route 40, citing repeated safety failures.
