Good morning! Join us for another Tuesday Spotlight newsletter, featuring the newest episode of the FreightCaviar Podcast and a new Carrier of the Week.
We sit down withAnes Balic, Director of Sales and Business Development at Balic Transport Inc, based in Denver, Colorado.
How He Built a Freight Empire – From US to Bosnia
Trucking has always been in Anes' blood. Born in the U.S. to Bosnian parents, he spent his summers there as a child. Growing up, he often traveled the roads with his father, an OTR truck driver, who went on to open Balic Transport Inc., a Denver-based trucking company, in 2007. What began as a family-run business in a small office – with his mother taking on the role of accounting, and Anes behind the wheel – the company soon took a leap of faith.
In 2016, after attending a conference and connecting with a legal advisory and management firm specializing in outsourcing services, Anes and his father were inspired by the opportunities they discovered that day and decided to outsource to Bosnia. They made it their goal to support their homeland and contribute to the community by creating jobs in the area. Today, Anes splits his time between the U.S. and Bosnia, managing operations and nurturing the company's growth.
In This Episode, You’ll Discover:
Building a 110+ Dry Van Operation Out of Denver: BTI has grown into one of the top 5 private dry van fleets based in Denver, CO. In this episode, Anes Balic shares how they built a trucking company out of one of the toughest outbound markets in the U.S.
The Real Story of Outsourcing to Bosnia (And No, It's Not Just About Cost): Anes gives a first-hand account of the culture shock of European outsourcing, from endless bureaucracy to tough labor laws. Essential viewing for anyone eyeing a global back-office.
The Playbook for Thriving in a "Dead" Freight Market: Everyone complains about "dead" markets like Denver. Anes reveals how BTI built success there through deep shipper relationships and avoiding the spot market race.
Here's what he had to say on what drives the company's success:
"Pride is what ultimately motivates us every day. Doing that work, doing it the right way, and enjoying it."
