A prominent Mississauga businessman was fatally shot in broad daylight last week after allegedly refusing to pay a $500,000 extortion demand, according to his family.

Harjeet Singh Dhadda, 51, was killed just after 12 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, in a parking lot near Tranmere Drive and Telford Way — steps from the office of G&G Trucking Solutions, the safety and insurance consultancy he co-owned with family for nearly 15 years.

Peel Regional Police confirmed Dhadda was shot multiple times and later died in hospital. Investigators said at least 15 shots were fired at close range. Witnesses described seeing a black Dodge Challenger pull into the lot just before the shooting. Authorities later confirmed that the suspect vehicle, a 2018 model, has been recovered.

Family Claims Extortion Threats Were Reported to Authorities

Speaking with OMNI News, Dhadda’s daughter, Gurleen Dhadda, said her father had received extortion threats originating from India and refused to comply.

“They asked for $500,000 from my dad, but my dad denied it,” she said. “He said he’s not going to pay a single penny because he works for it.”

The family alleges that prior to the killing, they reported the threats to local authorities but were not taken seriously. Peel Police have not confirmed the extortion claims but said that “every possible avenue is being investigated.”

Community Mourning and Calls for Accountability

Dhadda’s son, Tanveer Singh Dhadda, called his father “a devoted family man and law-abiding Canadian citizen” in a statement posted on social media.

“My father did not deserve this. He lived an honest life, yet those who came to harm him were armed with illegal weapons, operating with complete disregard for the law,” he wrote.

The Dhadda family’s firm, G&G Trucking Solutions, has served the transportation community in Ontario for over a decade, advising carriers on compliance, safety, and insurance matters.

“He was not just my father, he was everyone’s pillar,” Gurleen added. “He was a pillar for the whole community, and any problem a person had, he was always there to help them.”

Ongoing Investigation

Peel Regional Police say their homicide unit is leading the investigation. While no arrests have been made, the discovery of the suspect vehicle could offer new leads.

This case comes amid a wider concern within Canada’s trucking and logistics sectors about rising security threats — including extortion, cargo theft, and targeted violence — particularly against business owners with cross-border ties.
