In this week’s episode of theFreightCaviar Podcast, we sat down withEduardo Chaim, CCO & Founder at VAX Solutions. He shares the story of his entry into the industry, his experience working at Coyote Logistics, and how the company impacted the way he runs VAX Solutions today.
Early Life and Family Influence
Eduardo was born and raised in the small Mexican town of Lagos De Moreno. Growing up in a family that owned a transportation company, the world of logistics was a natural part of his everyday life. It came as no surprise when Eduardo gravitated towards his family’s footsteps.
Starting at Coyote Logistics
In 2017 he joined Coyote’s Mexican freight division team. This, he says, was a great starting point.
“It had a great culture. It was a great school where I learned about the international industry. Starting out at Coyote I thought I knew everything, because of my family, and then I was like, “Okay, I know nothing,” he laughs.
When the Coyote launched its Mexican freight division team, Eduardo recalls the company wanting to bring an American approach to logistics in Mexico.
“I was like, “Hold your horses. We have to mix it up with some Mexican manners and build relationships with the Mexican carriers.”
Founding VAX Solutions
Two years after relocating to Mexico City to work for Traxión– one of the largest transportation companies in the country– Eduardo opened VAX Solutions, a transportation network and logistic solutions company.
Thanks to his experience working at Coyote, and his deep-rooted knowledge of the industry, Eduardo was well-prepared to step into the role of CCO and founder of his own company.
“We merged that American culture with the Mexican manners of building relationships, which helped us in building VAX Solutions.”
Key Principles for Cross-Border Business
He emphasized a simple yet essential rule to keep in mind when wanting to do business with cross-border partners.
“As an international broker, if you want to get Mexican transportation companies to work with you, you have to first show that reliability, and show your carriers that you can pay.”
Proven Success and Company Culture
They’ve delivered on that promise. With a 0% churn rate, it’s evident that VAX is a go-to partner for anyone wanting to do business in Mexico. It’s not just clients that are satisfied- the team feels it too.
“Our employees don’t want to leave because we have a career path for everyone here.”
The past four years have proved that VAX Solutions is not only a reliable logistics provider with highly qualified personnel but also a multidisciplinary leader in the industry.
“We became a specialized holding group which provides different services to the logistics industry in Mexico. We had some board members who told us not to get trucks or the TMS. We operate separately. It’s back solutions with the whole team and our TMS, Zenitt, with a different team as well. So we became a multidisciplinary leader.”
Building Zenitt
Eduardo spoke about building their own TMS.
What initially drove them– despite the discouragement from others, was a refusal to settle for what the market had to offer at the time. Another key motivator was the need to create a solution that would fit their U.S.-Mexico operational flow.
“We couldn’t invoice U.S. loads with this TMS that is for Mexico, as well as the Mexican legal compliance on the American TMS.”
Industry Insights on Nearshoring
He also touched on one of the industry’s most talked-about topics: nearshoring to Mexico.
“It’s not a new thing. We've been hearing about it since Covid but it’s been happening since 1993 when the first free trade agreement was signed between Mexico, the U.S., and Canada. We’ve been building infrastructure for all these years for companies like General Motors and Toyota."
Geopolitical Challenges and Opportunities
He also shared his perspective on the rising tension between the countries, stemming from the ongoing tariff disputes.
“It’s happened before, and now the story repeats. I’ll go back to the phrase: 'exponential growth does not pause.’ We have to take advantage of how this whole new flow of commodity is going to go.”
Advice for Success in Nearshoring
To those seeking to gain the most from nearshoring, Eduardo has words of wisdom.
“One of the secrets of growth is to watch the game and move with the flow of the commodities.”
VAX Solutions story is a testament to the power of blending cultures, adapting to evolving markets, and staying grounded in ones core principles
